Lessons from my 5 year old friend.
This blog post isn’t going to be about hair so much, but it is going to be about something else I seem to talk about a lot, and that’s confidence. Look, I of all people know that confidence is often difficult to come by, ESPECIALLY when it comes to our hair. Sometimes we have to fake it ‘till we make it, but my goal for ALL of us is that we do, eventually, make it. “Make it to what, Jess?”, you might ask. Why, make it to the super-confident woman represented in my logo, silly! :) My goal for all of us is to feel like THIS as much as possible.
Switching gears a little, I want to share with you one of my personal philosophies. That is, “If you’re thinking something good about someone, it doesn’t do you any good to keep it to yourself.” It’s just TRUE, people. :) I especially think this applies to women and our ability to genuinely complement each other.
If I think someone is beautiful, I tell her. If I think someone’s eyes are stunning (looking at YOU Lisa of This Hair Of Mine!), I tell her! What good does it do me to think it silently inside my head, right? I want ALL of us to be confident enough in ourselves to be able to genuinely compliment each other AND to be able to accept the compliments we get. (Oohhh that’s rough to do, I know. :) )
Ok, so where am I going with all of this? Check out this picture my 5 year old friend Sasha made me last week. If you can’t read her writing, let me translate. It says, “I love Jess. You are great as me. Love Sasha.”
OMG, right??!?! This kid is FIVE and somehow has already figured out the balance between confidence and compliments. :) I LOVE IT. (I also love that she drew me in pants with one green and one blue leg. I see a new trend coming on…) If you hadn’t guessed, this picture now has the prime spot on my fridge. :)
So, that’s it for today, curlies. I can’t do much better than 5 year old Sasha did with that picture so I’ll stop here. :) Go drop a compliment on someone and I’ll see you back here soon. :)
